Blaise Thompson, Portals, Lauderdale House, London

Blaise Thompson's (Studio TW-137) solo exhibition Portals opened at Lauderdale House last week and is on display until 1st August.

Blaise Thompson's background in illustration is still evident in the symbols and graphic elements that find their way into his large abstract works. In contrast to the flattening effect of a printed illustration, his paintings are complex and multi-layered, with different aspects revealing themselves as we move around and observe them in different light.

A portal may take us to another place. Thompson asks us to observe the beauty of the mundane: the texture and pattern of the urban landscape we walk past every day. Thompson is inspired by the quotidian stories of the neglected, the peeling and the decorated on this side of the portal.

Inspired by the streets of Marseille, Marrakesh, Dublin and London.
