Weave a small tapestry on this free one day tapestry workshop in the light and airy Thames-Side studios Education Space (Unit 2) overlooking the Thames. On this one day course you will learn:

  • How to warp up a Tapestry frame
  • Basic weaving skills
  • How much weft to use
  • How to start and how to finish
  • Changing colour, blending
  • How to weave a simple shape
  • How to finish a tapestry and tie up the ends

    You can bring your own frame (an old picture frame is fine, buy one online georgeweil.com, weaversbazaar.com or ebay), or buy a small frame and bobbin on the day for £20 (if you want to take one home).

    All materials will be provided for use on the day.

    We will be using a cartoon of a simple shape to practice with but please bring any source material that you would like to use as ideas or inspiration, these can be: drawings, paintings, photos, colours, magazine tears or yarns of any material or weight.

    Please bring lunch, a bottle of water (Justine will be unable to supply tea or coffee), and any yarns that you would like to use: wool, cotton, linen, acrylic, silk, strips of paper or plastic or material.

    You will need: a pair of scissors, lunch and a bottle of water.
    Please wear a face mask.

    About the tutor:
    Justine Randall is an artist and tapestry weaver, she creates large abstract wall hangings concerning light, colour and the environment. She studied Tapestry at the Royal College of Arts and Textiles at West Surrey College of Art and Design. Justine has exhibited her work in Paris, Germany and Copenhagen. In 2019 she exhibited her work at OneRoom Gallery in Shoreditch. Her Wiltshire Landscape Tapestries were shortlisted for the Cordis Prize for Tapestry in 2016. Her work is held in both private and public collections.
