Friday 20 September 2019, 3.00-4.30pm Arcola Theatre 24 Ashwin Street London E8 3DL Free entry You are invited to a staged reading of excerpts from Thames-Side Studios based playwright Jennifer Farmer's (5-223) new play, How Far Apart which explores black women's experiences of pregnancy and childbirth. A 2018 report by the National Perinatal Epidemiology Unit at University of Oxford reported that 40 in every 100,000 black women in the UK will die in pregnancy compared to 5 in 100,000 white women. The readings are part of the development process of the play, to help better represent the issues and experiences of black women who have had difficulties during pregnancy and child birth.
