The Immeasurable is a group exhibition of over twenty artists from across the United Kingdom, Sweden and Australia. The focus of the exhibition is to create a site for experimentation alongside the commissioning of twenty works in relation to a curatorial and practice based research on care, female knowledge, slow practices, belief systems, healing and sharing.

Exhibiting artists: Christine Binnie, Blue Firth, Ludovica Gioscia and James Stopforth, Milo Creese, Candice Jacobs, Madalina Zaharia, Ross Taylor, Anna Von Hauswolff, Linda Persson, Sophie Eveleigh, Todd McMillan, Phillipa Stafford, Rachel McRae, Verity Birt, Lucy Stein, Fay Zmija Nicolson, Adam Bridgland, Åsa Jungnelius, Helle Kvamme, Johanna Gustafsson Fürst, Bridget Currie and Tamara Henderson, The Feminist Library.

Artists featuring in live events, film screenings/ workshops include Dominika Kieruzel, Ingela Johansson, Signe Johannessen, Jean Painleve, Milo Creese, Rachel McRae, Holly Slingsby, Phillippa Stafford, Victoria Rance, Ulrika Sparre, Ross Taylor, Madalina Zaharia, Fiona MacDonald/ Feralpractice, Todd McMillan, Liam Sprod and more.

Performance and readings weekend:

Saturday 20 July 2019, arrive from 4.30pm. Refreshments will be served between performances.

4.45pm - Dominika Kieruzel is a Polish London Thamesmead based visual and performance artist, working across media. She studied MA Performance at Goldsmiths University. She will present the durational performance Mother (duration 30 mins) where the audience can interact, should they wish to.

5.20pm - Liam Sprod is a Tasmanian London Thamesmead based philosopher, writer and artist who completed a PhD in Continental Philosophy at Kingston University 2016-17. He is the author of 'Nuclear Futurism' published by ZeroBooks (2016). Liam will hand out a series of black envelopes amongst the audience. In a random selection of receiving these back at hand, he will read the texts to us. The texts are written as poems or as a journey through abyssal tunnels of darkness (duration 15-20 mins).

5.50pm - Madalina Zaharia (b. 1985, Sighetu Marmatiei, Romania) is an artist who lives and works in London. She graduated from the Royal College of Art with an MA in Printmaking in 2012 having gained a Postgraduate diploma in Fine Art at Byam Shaw School of Art (CSM) in 2010. Madalina presents a take on an Artist Talk as a reading for the performance evening (duration 5-10 mins).

6.05pm - Fay Zmija Nicolson is a British artist born in Derby and live/works in London. Fay creates a version of earlier costumed /read/sung performance which is directly connected to her printing / image making practice. For the performance evening Fay Zmija will present a reading in costume that will direct the audience into another sphere (duration 10-20 mins).

6.40 pm - Holly Slingsby (born 1983, UK) is based in Margate, UK. She studied at the Ruskin School of Drawing and Fine Art, Oxford University (2003-06) and the Slade School of Art, London (2008-10), Her practice centres on performance and uses props, costumes and video. Her most recent work explores the female body in relation to fertility myths and medicine. Slingsby reinvents depictions of mythical and holy figures, playfully proposing embodiment of these characters as a form of invocation. She draws on a wealth of art historical and contemporary imagery to create her own irreverent yet thought-provoking visual language. Holly will perform Too Many Marys (duration 10 mins). 

7.00pm-8.30pm (this is preferably an interactive reading which will end as a vocal score).

Verity Birt is a British artist based in London. She is showing a ceramic installation first shown at Black Tower in Sydenham for her exhibition Deformation Attends Her. She studied at Goldsmiths and later at RCA Moving Image MA. Verity will conduct a Reading and Sounding Session - Re-enchantment. "Re-enchantment of the Earth reconnects what capitalism has divided: our relation with nature, with others, and with our bodies, enabling us not only to escape the gravitational pull of capitalism but to regain a sense of wholeness in our lives" - Silvia Federici.

"In the first half of the session we will read extracts from the texts listed below, after which I will lead a sounding workshop in which we will collectively voice refrains which resonated from the texts. We will build these into a soundscape as a way to share and embody the knowledge. Participation is voluntary - you are welcome to listen." - Verity Birt. 

Suzi Gablik: The Re-enchantment of Art (1991): Chapter 4: Learning to Dream, the Remythologising of Consciousness.

Silvia Federici: Re-enchanting the World (2018) Chapter 15: Re-enchanting the World: Technology, the Body and the Construction of the Commons.

Sunday 21 July 2019, 2.00-4.30pm
Woolwich E-N-E-R-G-Y

Meet at the gallery 1.45pm, depart 2pm. Duration 2-2.5 hours. Free and open to all.
End point: unknown (most likely near Woolwich or Charlton station).

Please join us this Sunday and come for a walk with artists Linda Persson and Ross Taylor. Guided only by their divining rods, the group will set off from the gallery at 2pm and enter into a rambling set of journeys and discussions, exploring local sites of antiquity and stumbling into Woolwich's many faces. The walk takes the form of a slow-moving conversation across this ancient landscape, combining discourse surrounding divination and mystical practices, and incorporating glimpses of bronze age tumulus and 1960's film sets. Please check the weather and prepare accordingly. It looks hot early on (sun cream) but may get cloudy later (umbrella). Trainers advised (for feet), rods provided.

Ross Taylor (b.1982, London) lives and works in London and completed his MA (Painting) at The Royal College of Art London, in 2008. Ross shows a mega piece at The Immeasurable called 1000 years in the hamster tank. In 2018 he was selected as artist-in-residence at The Edward James Foundation, West Sussex, and between 2015-16 was the Abbey Scholar in Painting at the British School at Rome, Italy. Recent exhibitions and performances include, Sightings, Caraboo, Bristol, 2018; Dialogues: New Painting from London, GASK, Kutna Hora, Czech Republic, 2018; Reading as Rhythm, Tate Liverpool, UK, 2018; A spicy migraine grease, Christian Larsen Gallery, Stockholm, Sweden, 2018; Teeth where fingernails should be, Ivan, Bucharest, Romania, 2017.
