Chris Waite, Rocks, Paper, Scissors, Stone
Exhibition Dates: 10-25 November 2018
Chris Waite (TB-253) presents a selection of works in progress in Thames-Side Studios Lounge. The complete body of drawings, painting, photographs, film and prints are an attempt to by Chris to create an explorative documentary/archive of a coastal walk, The Southwest Way, the 630-mile footpath that traverses the Devon, Cornwall and Dorset coastline from Minehead to Poole Harbour.
The walk has been ongoing for a number of years with continuous interruptions. I had never intended for it to take so long. The endeavour to complete parts of the walk has become erratic, like a jigsaw puzzle, with many parts missing; very similar to my beloved studio practice. In the attempt to retrieve some order and consistency in my life, and more importantly organise and make more sense of these memorable places, it seemed a good time to revisit and exhibit some pieces of the work. It is unknown how this work may evolve, as they are just thoughts ideas and responses. Or, in-deed, whether and when this trip will ever end. Chris Waite, November 2018.
Chris Waite has held a studio on site since 2009. He is currently co-director of Visual Art and Design at the BRIT School. You can follow Chris Waite on Instagram here
