Heather Green

"Painting is coloured by the metaphysical frameworks of emotion and information that affect the painter at work. I weave these influences through my work via a ritualistic engagement with news media. In this ritual I find surprising comfort; I situate myself among the stories of the world while existing in my own. Language has substance. Every word or phrase extracted is infused with social or political concerns, humour or life contained within it. Through incorporating these text fragments into my process, I embed my paintings in the fabric of human existence.

I believe the best of painting is always peculiar and unknowable."

Heather Green, February 2024 (Studio 7-222)
